Historically, the American West was utilized as a source of inspiration after the American Civil War. Solomons turns this information into a metaphor about common medical practices towards mental illness in America, with emphasis on the lack of empathy.

 

 

This work is a part of the 'Vulnerably Defective' series which won a Magnum Photo Graduate Award (2016); and was a Selected Graduate in Source Photographic Review (2015/16)
