This work is a part of a body of research that critically examines how nonsuicidal self-injury can be used as a self-destructive coping behavior. Over the course of eight months, Solomons was dragged in regular cycles through dense undergrowth. This video is a collection of footage from their dragging sessions at an American Civil War battlefield. This video is shown with a scents that refer to the sweet and damp smells emitted from decaying corpses.

 

The core concern of this work is to highlight the distance between empathy and disconnection in violence.
